What is the Schengen Visa Photo & Signature Resizer?

Schengen Area Visa Application applicants need their photo to match the portal's exact upload requirements — exact numbers for which haven't been loaded into this tool yet (see the notice above). Government ID and document portals apply the same kind of automated upload validation as any exam form — a photo that's a few KB too large, or not quite the right crop, gets rejected before your application is even submitted.

This page still gives you the full resizer tool below — you'll just need to enter Schengen Visa's dimensions and file-size limits yourself from the official notification, since they haven't been confirmed here yet.

How to use it

  1. Open the official Schengen Visa notification (link above) and confirm the current photo requirements — specs do change between recruitment cycles.
  2. Enter the width, height, and KB range from the notification into the resizer below.
  3. Upload your photo or signature — JPG, PNG, WEBP, or a HEIC photo straight from a phone.
  4. Crop to the locked ratio, and use background removal (or paper-background removal for a signature) if the notification requires a plain background.
  5. Click "Resize & Compress" and download once the final size shows green — if it shows red, widen the range slightly or try a different source photo.

How it works, and why it's private

Government ID and document portals apply the same kind of automated upload validation as any exam form — a photo that's a few KB too large, or not quite the right crop, gets rejected before your application is even submitted. Entering the target pixel size and KB range once, instead of fighting with an image editor's percentage-based "save for web" slider, is what actually gets a file to land inside a specific window on the first try.

The resizer binary-searches JPEG quality first (the gentlest way to shrink a file) and only reduces the actual pixel dimensions if quality alone can't fit under the maximum — so a photo doesn't get visibly softer than it needs to be just to hit a byte count.

If you're signing on paper for the photo, use a dark blue or black pen on plain white paper with nothing else in frame. Everything runs in your browser using Canvas and WebAssembly — your photo is never uploaded anywhere, including to this site.

Example

Common reasons a Schengen Visa photo or signature gets rejected:

• The photo was cropped to the wrong aspect ratio, so it got stretched or squeezed to fit instead of being resized properly
• The background isn't plain — a patterned wall, furniture, or another person visible behind you
• The signature was scanned or photographed on a full sheet of paper with a large blank margin still attached
• The photo is more than a few months old, or taken in different lighting/clothing than what the portal's guidance expects

Frequently asked questions

What is the exact photo size for Schengen Visa?

This tool doesn't have Schengen Visa's exact photo size loaded yet — check the official notification (linked above) and enter the dimensions into the general resizer below.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere when I use this tool?

No. Cropping, background removal, and compression all run locally in your browser — your photo is never sent to a server, including ours.

What's the most common reason Schengen Visa rejects an uploaded photo?

The photo was cropped to the wrong aspect ratio, so it got stretched or squeezed to fit instead of being resized properly. This tool's crop-and-compress flow is built specifically to avoid that.

Can I take the photo with my phone, or does it need a studio?

A phone photo works fine as long as the lighting is even and the background is plain — this tool's crop and background removal handle the rest.

Where do I confirm Schengen Visa's current requirements are still accurate?

Always check the official Schengen Visa notification directly at https://www.schengenvisainfo.com before submitting — specs in this tool are a starting point, not a guarantee they match the current cycle.
