What to include in a marriage biodata
A good marriage biodata is short, honest and easy to read in under a minute. Start with your full name, date of birth (with age), height, education and profession — the details families look at first. Then add family details: your father’s and mother’s names and occupations, brothers and sisters, family type and native place. Finish with a clear contact person and phone number.
Keep sensitive details optional. Income and caste are hidden by default in this maker; show them only if your family wants to. Avoid long paragraphs — one or two lines “About me” about your nature, values and interests is enough. Make sure spellings of names and places are correct, because the biodata is often forwarded many times.
Biodata format by religion
Hindu biodata format
A Hindu marriage biodata usually begins with “|| Shree Ganeshaya Namah ||” and includes horoscope details: time and place of birth, rashi, nakshatra, gotra and whether the person is manglik. These help families match kundli. If you don’t know the exact time of birth, leave it out rather than guessing.
Muslim biodata format
A Muslim biodata often opens with “Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim” and mentions the sect (Sunni or Shia), religious practice such as namaz and Quran reading, and family background. Biradari is optional and hidden by default.
Christian biodata format
A Christian biodata typically includes the denomination (Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox) and the parish or church the family belongs to, along with education, profession and family details. Baptism date is optional.
Sikh biodata format
A Sikh biodata may begin with “ੴ Ik Onkar” and can mention whether the person is Amritdhari, whether a groom wears a turban, and the grandfather’s name, which many Sikh families like to include. Gotra or caste is optional.
Jain biodata format
A Jain biodata usually notes the sect (Digambar or Shwetambar) and gotra, along with the Jain diet. “Jai Jinendra” is a popular opening line.
Tips for a good biodata photo
- Use a recent, clear photo where your face is well lit — daylight near a window works well.
- Look at the camera with a natural smile; avoid sunglasses, heavy filters and group photos.
- A plain or soft background looks best. Crop from mid-chest upwards so your face is the focus.
- Wear simple, neat clothes — traditional wear for a traditional design, formal wear for a modern one.
- Use the crop tool here to centre your face; the photo is compressed automatically so the PDF stays small.
Hindi biodata format (हिंदी बायोडाटा)
Many families prefer the biodata in Hindi. Switch the language to हिंदी and the headings become व्यक्तिगत विवरण, शिक्षा और व्यवसाय, पारिवारिक विवरण and संपर्क विवरण, with labels such as जन्म तिथि, ऊँचाई, राशि, गोत्र and पिता का नाम. You can type names and details in Hindi (Devanagari) or English — both print correctly. If you need to type in Hindi with an English keyboard, use our free Hindi Typing Pad and paste the text here.
