What is the YouTube Thumbnail tool?

This tool makes any photo exactly 1280×720 px. It is useful when a website, form or print shop asks for that exact size.

When the new shape is different from your photo, you choose what happens: crop to fill (nothing stretched), fit the whole picture with a background colour, or stretch.

How to use it

  1. Upload up to 12 photos (JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF or iPhone HEIC), or drop them on the page.
  2. The size is already set to 1280×720 px — change it if you need to.
  3. Choose crop, fit or stretch, the output format and an optional maximum size in KB.
  4. Click Resize, then download each photo or all of them as a ZIP.

How it works

pixels = inches × DPI = (cm ÷ 2.54) × DPI = (mm ÷ 25.4) × DPI

Inches, cm and mm are turned into pixels using the DPI (dots per inch): pixels = inches × DPI. At 300 DPI, 1 inch = 300 px and 35 mm ≈ 413 px.

The DPI is saved inside JPG and PNG files, so the photo prints at the right physical size.

If you set a KB limit, the quality is lowered step by step until the file fits, and the size is reduced only if that is not enough.

Frequently asked questions

Will resizing stretch my photo?

Not unless you choose Stretch. "Crop to fill" cuts the extra edges from the centre and "Fit" keeps the whole photo and adds a background.

What DPI should I use?

300 DPI for printing photos and passport pictures. For websites and online forms the pixel size matters, not the DPI — but some forms ask for 200 or 300 DPI, so it is saved in the file.

Can I resize many photos at once?

Yes — up to 12 at a time with the same settings, and download them together as a ZIP file.

Can I use iPhone HEIC photos?

Yes. HEIC photos from iPhones are converted automatically, then processed like any JPG.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your browser on your own phone or computer. Your photos are never sent to a server, so it is safe for ID cards, documents and personal pictures.
